Requirements of Art Works to be Displayed
Physical Limitations & Presentation Requirements
Framing
All artwork at The Monastery Gallery of Art are displayed on a gallery hanging system. All artwork intended for display must be suitably framed or otherwise professionally presented and ready for hanging utilizing eye hooks and wire attached to the back of the frame—other types of hanging devices must be approved by The Gallery before installation date. The Gallery is not required to frame or provide access to framing for exhibition of artwork.
Sculptures
Sculptures are accepted and must be able to stand alone, sit on a pedestal provided by the artist or sit on a pedestal provided by The Gallery. The Gallery does not provide a plexi-glass covering for any work. The artist is free to provide a covering for their work.
Mediums
Mediums can include but are not limited to ink, paints, photography, printmaking, collage, quilts, fiber art, bronze, marble, paper and metal. The Gallery can review mediums with the artist of necessary.

Criteria for Selection & other Requirements
- Work submitted must be thematically appropriate to be displayed and viewed by visitors of all ages. While challenging themes are encouraged, the selection committee reserves the right to reject work that is not appropriate for our Gallery audiences.
- As a general guideline, The Gallery encourages works of art that explore a variety of subject matters as outlined in our mission statement and other meaningful ideas that are manifest in the many mediums of art today.
- Priority is given to artists who are willing to lecture or teach a class on or about their art. The lecture may or may not be in conjunction with the opening.
- The submitted examples of art will be reviewed by a committee working in conjunction with The Gallery. The committee may include professional artists, educators and other responsible jurors.
- Work selected will be on display for the exhibition. The work must remain on display for the agreed upon duration. Pieces sold will remain on display through exhibition timeframe.
- Insurance and security issues are described in our contract document, which will be signed by The Gallery and the Artist at the time of acceptance of the exhibit.
- Artists are responsible for the delivery and removal of their own work to and from the exhibition space on designated days.
- Installation and de-installation will be provided by The Gallery staff with assistance from the artist if necessary. Artists will review installation layout; however, The Gallery reserves the right to make final installation decisions.
History of our spaceThe Monastery Gallery of Art is located on the historic grounds of Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center. The MGA occupies a space on the B floor adjacent to the Public Chapel and that was once used as a dining room by the Passionist Community. |
