Meditations on Nature
by Edith Skiba LaMonica
The Monastery Gallery of Art is pleased to host its sixth virtual art show…this time featuring a local abstract artist. Edith’s Meditations on Nature will help us to see nature in a different light. This exhibit is perfect as we are facing the change of seasons, and can reflect on the beauty of each season through these paintings.
Artist Statement
The paintings are inspired by the woodland pond near my studio. I daily observe the weather and seasonal changes that shape the life process of this primal environment. Reflections of clouds and trees intertwine with growing plants and wild life in the shifting water merging reality with illusion. My aim is to create evocative atmospheres that will engage our senses. I combine Impressionist and Expressionist techniques to create images that are both familiar and abstract. I arrange colors, forms and rhythmic lines that will generate motion.
My paintings are the starting point for interpretations as limitless as our differing lives. I want my work to reach for the personal, for intimate memories and nostalgic experiences. Each unique scene offers a living environment to explore. Ultimately my work plays out my fascination with the mysterious nature of reality.
